Attention treasure-seekers! Bake a cake with a good-luck coin inside!
Mr. Deebee borrowed this idea from a cake that’s been part of New Year’s Day celebrations in Greece and many other cultures since long ago. Mr. Deebee has a sweet tooth for chocolate, so this is one of his favorite recipes.

What you’ll need:

• 12-ounce can of cola
• 1 box of chocolate cake mix

Topping

• ½ cup chocolate chips
• ½ cup chopped nuts
• ½ cup coconut

Treasure!

• 1 quarter wrapped in tinfoil

Directions

1. Ask a treasure-seeker who is an adult to be your assistant baker. Preheat oven to 350˚F. Spray a 9″ x 13″ cake pan with cooking spray.
2. In a small bowl, mix chocolate chips, nuts and coconut. Set aside for later.
3. In a big bowl, add cola to dry cake mix. (No other ingredients are needed). Mix well.
4. Pour mixture into the cake pan. Close your eyes (no peeking!) while your assistant baker pushes the coin into the batter (now its location will be a surprise for you, too).
5. Sprinkle chocolate chips, nuts and coconut mixture evenly on top.
6. Bake for 35 minutes. Insert a toothpick in the center where there is not a chocolate chip. If there’s no batter on it when you pull it out, the cake is done. Let it cool to room temperature. Slice.
7. A super-important reminder: Before serving the cake, make sure your guests know to look for the buried treasure.
